Photo-electrical and transport properties of hydrothermal ZnO

We performed the studies of optical, photoelectric, and transport properties of a hydrothermal bulk n-type ZnO crystal by using the contactless optical techniques: photoluminescence, light-induced transient grating, and differential reflectivity. Optical studies revealed bound exciton and defect-related transitions between the donor states (at ∼60 meV and ∼240 meV below the conduction band) and the deep acceptor states (at 0.52 eV above the valence band). The acceptor state was ascribed to VZn, and its thermal activation energy of 0.43 eV was determined. Improved electroless platinum contacts on CdZnTe X- and γ-rays detectors

AbstractPlatinum is a promising candidate for the realization of blocking electrical contacts on cadmium-zinc-telluride (CdZnTe or CZT) radiation detectors. However, the poor mechanical adhesion of this metal often shortens the lifetime of the final device. In this work, a simple and effective procedure to obtain robust platinum contacts by electroless deposition is presented. Microscopical analysis revealed the final thickness and composition of the contact layer and its adhesion to the bulk crystal. Updated measurement of the τ lepton lifetime

A new measurement of the mean lifetime of the tau lepton is presented. Three different analysis methods are applied to a sample of 90000 tau pairs, collected in 1993 and 1994 with the ALEPH detector at LEP. The average of this measurement and those previously published by ALEPH is tau_tau = 290.1 +- 1.5 +- 1.1 fs.

Abstract In this paper we compare the performance of the textured SnO2:F and Mo contacts with the p-type layer in p–i–n hydrogenate amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) solar cells. We use standard current–voltage (I–V) electrical characterization methods coupled with forward bias small signal impedance analysis. We show the efficacy of this technique to determine the effective carrier lifetime in photovoltaic cells. We show that such effective lifetimes are indeed directly connected to the respective dark diode saturation currents. AbstractAmyloid protein aggregates are not only associated with neurodegenerative diseases and may also occur as unwanted by-products in protein-based therapeutics. Surfactants are often employed to stabilize protein formulations and reduce the risk of aggregation. However, surfactants alter protein-protein interactions and may thus modulate the physicochemical characteristics of any aggregates formed. A machine learning examination of hydroxyl radical differences among model simulations for CCMI-1

The hydroxyl radical (OH) plays critical roles within the troposphere, such as determining the lifetime of methane (CH4), yet is challenging to model due to its fast cycling and dependence on a multitude of sources and sinks. As a result, the reasons for variations in OH and the resulting methane lifetime (τCH4), both between models and in time, are difficult to diagnose. We apply a neural network (NN) approach to address this issue within a group of models that participated in the Chemistry-Climate Model Initiative (CCMI). Direct investigation of viscosity of an atypical inner membrane of Bacillus spores: A molecular rotor/FLIM study

Abstract We utilize the fluorescent molecular rotor Bodipy-C12 to investigate the viscoelastic properties of hydrophobic layers of bacterial spores Bacillus subtilis. The molecular rotor shows a marked increase in fluorescence lifetime, from 0.3 to 4 ns, upon viscosity increase from 1 to 1500 cP and can be incorporated into the hydrophobic layers within the spores from dormant state through to germination. We use fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy to visualize the viscosity inside different compartments of the bacterial spore in order to investigate the inner membrane and relate its compaction to the extreme resistance observed during exposure of spores to toxic chemicals. Study of the Curing Process of DGEBA Epoxy Resin Through Structural Investigation

In this work, a multi-scale approach with different analytical methods is applied to study the curing process and the structural properties of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy resin. This monomer, thermally cured using 4,4′-diaminodiphenilsulfone (DDS) as hardener, is analyzed after 10, 45, 90, and 120 min of reaction time at 180 °C to obtain information on samples with different cross-linking densities.
